How Does Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) Work?

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) involves breathing oxygen through a mask while pressurised in a specially built chamber. This allows higher than normal concentrations of oxygen to be dissolved in the blood than is possible at ordinary atmospheric pressure. The entire body and all organs and tissues in the body are exposed to increased oxygen. It is now known that lack of oxygen at the cellular level genetically controls the inflammatory process and by providing extra oxygen at this level it is possible to control the inflammation process and the associated damage caused by many inflammatory conditions.

Latest Research

The latest research has found that the genes regulating inflammation are controlled by the level of oxygen reaching the tissues. Breathing oxygen in a pressure chamber can relieve the lack of oxygen, reduce inflammation and improve healing. Over the last 30 years thousands of people throughout the UK and Ireland report that they have experienced the benefits of High Dose Oxygen. The first MS Therapy Centre was built in Dundee over 30 Years ago and grows from strength to strength.

Who might benefit ?

There are more than 60 such oxygen therapy centres in the UK & Ireland and over the years many people suffering from a wide range of inflammatory conditions in addition to MS have experienced the benefits of breathing high dose oxygen in these chambers. The facilities at Perth Airport are operated by our trained volunteers and this supports members who wish to treat a wide variety of conditions.  The therapy is found to help alleviate a wide range of conditions.
